Sorrin Garcia and Sienna Tavernini to represent Arizona on the national stage
PHOENIX, Ariz., Oct. 3, 2026 - The Miss Arizona Volunteer Organization crowned Sorrin Garcia as Miss Arizona Volunteer 2027 and Sienna Tavernini as Miss Arizona Teen Volunteer 2027 during the state competition held Saturday at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Performing Arts Center in Phoenix.

Sorrin Garcia, 21, is a graduate student at Northern Arizona University pursuing a Master of Science in Athletic Training and is expected to graduate in spring 2027. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Coaching from Western New Mexico University in 2025. Her professional goal is to work as an athletic trainer for a professional sports team while helping increase the visibility of women in the sports industry.
"Being crowned Miss Arizona Volunteer 2027 is an incredible honor," Garcia said. "This program has given me the opportunity to serve with purpose and expand the work of F.E.E.L. Better Than Yesterday. I am excited to represent Arizona and use this year to encourage people across our state to take meaningful steps toward healthier lives and stronger communities."
Garcia's S.E.R.V.E. Initiative, "F.E.E.L. Better Than Yesterday," promotes a four-part approach to health and wellness: Find a Cause, Exercise, Eat Right and Let Someone Know. Over five years of service, Garcia reports reaching more than 1,500 students through 3,320 hours of free classes and helping raise $430,000. Her work includes senior fitness classes, health education and classroom outreach.
“Being crowned Miss Arizona Volunteer 2027 is an incredible honor,” Garcia said. “This program has given me the opportunity to serve with purpose and expand the work of F.E.E.L. Better Than Yesterday. I am excited to represent Arizona and use this year to encourage people across our state to take meaningful steps toward healthier lives and stronger communities.”
Garcia brings a long history of service to the title, including 15 years of volunteering with The Salvation Army. She has also served in leadership roles with Teens Make Health Happen, Western New Mexico University's Pom Line and senior fitness programs. Her achievements include training with the School of Ballet Arizona Professional Program, performing as Clara in Ballet Arizona's The Nutcracker, co-founding Volunteen Opportunity and securing $67,000 in scholarships.

Sienna Tavernini, 15, is a sophomore at Mountain View High School. She participates in honors and dual-enrollment coursework and is involved in DECA, HOSA, sports medicine, dance and American Sign Language. She plans to pursue higher education and eventually serve in the U.S. Air Force while continuing her education in the medical field.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as Miss Arizona Teen Volunteer 2027,” Tavernini said. “Through Teen Lifeline, I have learned how powerful it can be simply to listen and help another teen feel heard. I hope to use this title to share that message throughout Arizona, encourage young people to support one another and show teens that their voices matter.”
Tavernini's S.E.R.V.E. Initiative, "H.O.P.E.! - Helping Our Peers Endure," focuses on ensuring young people know they have someone who will listen when they are struggling. A trained volunteer peer counselor with Teen Lifeline, Tavernini spends two afternoons each week responding to calls and texts from teens in crisis under staff supervision. Her passion for suicide prevention grew from seeing friends struggle with anxiety and other challenges during junior high school.
"We are honored to recognize two outstanding young women who embody the ideals of leadership and service," said Sharon Cordes, Executive Director of the Miss Arizona Volunteer Organization. "Sorrin and Sienna each bring a genuine commitment to serving others, along with the drive to turn their passions into meaningful action. We look forward to watching them make an impact throughout Arizona and represent our state on the national stage."
Throughout their year of service, Garcia and Tavernini will serve as ambassadors for the Miss Arizona Volunteer Organization, promoting education, volunteerism, leadership and community involvement. Garcia will represent Arizona at the Miss Volunteer America national competition in Jackson, Tennessee, and Tavernini will represent the state at the Miss Teen Volunteer America national competition.
